The CMJO has been performing at brand-new venue (for us). It's a club known as "This Must Be The Place", in downtown Lemont, just across from the historic train station.

"This Must Be the Place" is located in downtown Lemont, just across from Lemont's historic train station. Why Lemont, you say? I thought you'd never ask.

Dan, and his partner in the club Bill are friends of Jim's buddy Bill Mortimer. Jim and Bill were talking one day not too long ago, and Bill said "you ought to give my buddy Dan a call, he's got a real nice restaurant called "The Place", and Dan has a large room where he books music.  I gave Dan a call, and told him about the CMJO. Dan couldn't have been nicer, and the rest is history.. Check Mapquest or Google Maps for "The Place" (or "This Must Be the Place") in Lemont. The address of the club is 206 Main St. in Lemont. The phone number of the club is (630) 243-1500 if you'd like to call for directions, and the web address is http://www.betheplace.com.

Dan and Bill also put a lot of money into making the music room acoustically hospitable, and he did a nice job. I know we've been threatening this for awhile, but we're going to see if we can't get a few good takes out of this performance.

The Chicago Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra, led by Jim Peterson, is one of the finest big bands in the country today. This twenty piece group consists entirely of professional musicians, many of whom are alumni from the bands of Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson, and others. The CMJO has an extensive library of the original arrangements of the Stan Kenton Orchestra. A true, professional big band, the CMJO has been privileged to have backed such jazz luminaries as Billy Eckstein, Cab Calloway, and the Four Freshmen, to name just a few.

In January 2008, and again in February 2009 the Band was the featured evening band at the Naperville Jazz Festival, where it received high praise playing before 51 schools to a standing-room-only audience. Many of the Band members are clinicians for this as well as other festivals.

The CMJO was invited by the Chinese government to represent the United States at the Macau International Music Festival in Macau, China.   The CMJO plays regularly at Fitzgerald's Night Club in Berwyn, as well as at other clubs and festivals in the Chicago area, around the United States, and internationally. Visit the website often to see the new dates. You are also invited to join our mailing list!

The CMJO has recorded three record albums, two of which
(
Live and Screamin' and Labor of Love) are easily purchased (either song by song or full album) on iTunes
or are currently available for purchase from Lenny King through this website.

We now have begun the production our fourth record album, which will be an album of "standards", written and arranged specifically for the CMJO by some of the best composers and arrangers from Chicago, LA, New York, Dallas (North Texas), and Boston (Berklee). The CMJO is gaining national notoriety, and these charts are being written specifically to the strengths of the CMJO.

The CMJO is available for bookings for 2010. You may call Jim Peterson at (312) 235-2310 in the Chicago area, or (602) 910-5970 in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area to discuss scheduling and availability. You may also email Jim at: Jim@CMJO.com
